The documentary in subject particularly in-depth with an eclectic range of references within the genre spanning the last near century and a half spanning from Russian space race propaganda to exploration of time travel through dreams. 

That said the issue i come across is my belief in the mundanity in categorizing and subcategorizing film, though I'm sure mark kermode doesn't seriously expect us to believe all sci-fi can be categorized into 7 subcategories the exorcise of it seems a little mundane when looking at films that to a degree seem larger than traditional genre categories. 

But again the documentary is informative and offers a wider view of science fiction and the aspects of it which seem to some down to travel between both the third and fourth dimension as well as man's fear and fascination with the other be that alien machine or god with within itself can come down to our as humans fundamental interest in exploration be that through distance or in reflection of ourselves.
