Singing in the Rain –You were meant for me Scene analysis

The principal scene in the meta repackaging of golden era musicals, singing in the rain is the vibrant sequence around the gene Kelly song you were meant for me. The sequence showing Kelly's don Lockwood profess his love to Debbie Rynold's Cathy Sheldon in a way that he an actor only feels he can. The scene is a walk through in the creation of mise en scene as Lockwood prances from set box to set box flipping switches and moving fans to create a mesmerizing image of romantic set piecing.

Editing within the sequence being minimal the average shot being over 5 seconds in length with the scene prioritizing flow and spontaneity as it follows the two actors. Particularly in dance numbers the camera ebbs and flows in closeness whilst following the dancing duo. The movie principally centered always on Kelly who it follows primarily as the source of the special

Visually the sequence looks to extremes, the opening shot of the sequence being the two seemingly entering a void the size of the doorway looking to accentuate there now minuscule silhouettes, create a sense of creativity and possibility the black frame filmmakers' canvas on which they work on. The next shot, however, is a low angle close look up at the two that points as they run over to the center stage. The shot, unlike the other frames, has a more imposing image of the actors going from accentuating how small they are comparatively to making them take up the whole frame. The idea centering this is to almost remind the audience of the presence of the characters Kelly as a celebrity and stage performer who presides over the movie.

The scenes lighting being set up in real time with Kelly first setting up the cool pink background and then bright extension of colorful lights. Creating a almost angelic seeming visual of surreal cinematic presence, enhanced by the blurring edges of Technicolor's colour spectrum

The scene expressing one side of a duality of actors and a blurring of reality between characters. And the persona the world the movie shows hyper focused on the film industry as something that flows within the characters life's and here is shown to dictate how even they express. The idea of the creation of movies as modern legends that influences out of the screen into how people express their most personal felling's
